About

The department was founded at the beginning of the 1970s in the course of the creation of the faculty of social and economic sciences and named 'Department of Management'. Since 1991, the department has been headed by Prof. Alfred Wagenhofer. The department has traditionally focused on management accounting and control and was therefore renamed 'Department of Management Accounting and Control' in 1997. Based on the broad research agenda the departement was again renamed "Institute for Accounting and Control" by 2007. The areas of research cover topics like

  • Management Incentives,
  • Value-based Management,
  • Corporate Governance,
  • International Financial Reporting.

The Center for Accounting Research, closely associated with the Insitute, was founded in 2006 and is headed by Prof. Wagenhofer.

The Institute offers both required and elective courses for undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition, postgraduate classes are included in DART, the Doctoral Program in Accounting, Reporting, and Taxation. Research projects supported by third-party funds are usually part of the Center for Accounting Research.
