History

The Department was founded under the name 'Department for Corporate Management' in the early 1970s as part of the founding of the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences. Since 1991, the Institute has been headed by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Alfred Wagenhofer. Since then, the Department's core competencies have been in the areas of

• Management incentives,
• value-oriented management,
• corporate governance and
• international accounting.

In 2006, the Center for Accounting Research was founded, which is headed by Prof. Wagenhofer and has a close relationship with the Department. In 2007, the Department's specialization in the areas of corporate accounting and management accounting was also reflected in the name of the Department, which henceforth became the 'Department for Corporate Accounting and Management Accounting'.

In addition to compulsory courses in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, the Deparment offers specializations in management accounting. Doctoral courses are also offered, which are primarily integrated into the special Doctoral Program in Accounting, Reporting, and Taxation (DART). Since Prof. Wagenhofer took over as head of the department, around 20 dissertations and two habilitations have been completed. Third-party funded research projects are generally carried out via the Center for Accounting Research.
